When your indie-hipster friend says, "Explosions in the Sky are too mainstream for me," you can lead them to 65 Days of Static (stylized as 65daysofstatic). It's post-rock at its finest... which... by the way... what the hell does "post-rock" even mean? Is this rock 'n' roll for when the aliens come to earth, missing humanity by a couple of millenniums; They show up and find a planet similar to the one after the meteorite hit & killed all the dinosaurs (you know- that asteroid collision?!)... here they are on earth... maybe they fall into a landfill or find themselves in the ocean littered with plastic bags & CD's... or they are in a burning forest and find an iPod & headphones- and magically- the battery is at 1%- the alien puts in his headphones & hears 65daysofstatic; Well, if this were to be the case- I think that the aliens would think highly of us. This is truly out-of-this-world music. Each song this Sheffield, UK band creates is a soundscape in itself with its own atmosphere. For a band to say, "Hey gang! Let's be an instrumental band!" takes some serious balls. But for a band to create such unique & diverse music, from high to low, from soft to loud, everything in between........ & do all this while somehow managing to make guitars, drums, keyboards, and whatever crazy electronic sounds you can find- and make them all clash in what can only be described as beautiful chaos... well I be damned. My non-existent space-cowboy-hat is off to you, young sir. Don't be surprised to hear a beautiful xylophone solo sandwiched in-between synth-heavy-as-Halen verses & choruses. It truly is out of this world- I don't know how to describe it. It's beautiful. Perfect music for late-night-walks... something that could soundtrack sneaking on to a football field at night & climbing up the field goal- if that makes any sense at all. I first got on board with this band through their fifth studio album & an alternate soundtrack to the 1972 sci-fi film Silent Running, 2011's Silent Running. The band is from England. They formed in 2001. The band members include Joe Shrewsbury, Paul Wolinski, Rob Jones, & Simon Wright. They are best described as "a soundtrack to a new dimension where rock, dance & electronica are equals." If this sounds like something that's up your alley, well then: fix the antenna, check the tracking, and/or change the channel; whatever you do: find...
