The musical project of Vancouver, Canada's Claire Bouche started in 2007 when she decided to start messin' around with a little music programming software called Logic Pro.  She soon had a viral MySpace page. Unfortunately her early releases (songs like "Ham Mer Maid," "Gloam," "The Crazy Doctor," & "World Brain") haven't gotten the proper re-release OR compilation they deserve. 2010 saw the release of her proper-debut album, Geidi Primes & her sophomore effort Halfaxa. Other than "Fifteen Minutes To," 2011's Darkbloom E.P, & some random Soundcloud stuff, it wasn't really until 2012's Visions release, her third album- an album recorded in just two weeks, in which Grimes took the world by storm. It's no surprise either.... Listen... when you have a song as good as "Oblivion," it's not like it was gonna' take long before the world took notice. The song received plenty of accolades including Pitchfork's "Best Song of the Year" title. With the world's eyes on her, Claire has only defined & bettered her sound & vision. Between the releases of her breakthrough  Visions & 2015's nearly-as-good Art Angels, she released one of my favorite songs of all time, "REALiTi (Demo)" which may be the best song about climbing since Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)." The music Grimes makes is other worldly: spacey, starry, galactic... This probably explains why she ended up being partners with Elon Musk & having their first born child named X Æ A-Xii. Grimes released Miss Anthropocene in 2020, which she declared as her last "earthly" album,. What's next up for Grimes- well- the galaxy's skies are the limit... It will all be fine...

Grouper

 131 Grouper  Grouper Reverb. Echo. Effects. Acoustic. Droney. These are some words you could use to explain Grouper's earlier work. Grouper is the solo project of Liz Harris. Her first album was self-titled & self-released. Grouper's second album was 2006's Way Their Crept . There was something special about that mid-ought's droney-underwater sounding indie. Grouper would go on to release five (!) more albums before I came on board as a fan: 2006's Wide , 2007's Cover The Windows & The Walls , 2008's widely acclaimed Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill & 2011's double-album (but separately released) AIA: Dream Loss & AIA: Alien Observer ... just to be followed up by 2012's double album: Violent Replacement Part I and Violent Replacement Part II . FKA twigs

99 FKA twigs FKA twigs FKA twigs is the brain-child of Tahliah Barnett. Under her stage-name of FKA twigs (which I'll just refer to her as twigs from here-on-out) she has released three EP’s (2012’s EP1 , 2013’s EP2 , and 2015’s incredible M3LL155X EP )  and two albums (2014’s LP1 & 2019’s Magdalene ). With someone with such a small catalogue, it's amazing how dense and rich this music is. Before Billie Eilish made the whole whisper-singer mainstream last year, twigs was already releasing down-tempo-trip-hop-whisper-sung music back in 2012. That is when she released her debut, EP1 . twigs hqd been studying dance since the age of six, but deep down, she knew she always wanted to be a recording artist so she eventually left the dancing behind (in a way [dance has always been a big part of her project]) to focus on her music project.
